Do you want a thorn or no thorn?

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24(NIV)

I was thinking about something this past Sunday at our church.  What if you swallowed God?  Would you want Him to be smooth to where He would be enjoyed like a delicious dessert?  Or would you want Him to upset your stomach to where you feel miserable and can’t even sleep due to the constant feeling of being sick?  The dessert is enjoyed for a moment but then within minutes it is gone.  However, the upset stomach continues to remind you of it being there and you feel like you want to get it out.

Surrender: you have been given a NEW nature, Live it!”

What do you think?  Are you ready for the new life?  Is there a thorn in your life that reminds you to keep the focus?  Do you want to be reminded daily of God?

  1. I’ve learned that I do need the thorn. Occassionly I try to relive some horrible moments in my life. I take myself back in my mind so that I can remember how desperate I was for God. How much I needed him to pull me through. His deliverance gave me a knew picture of who he is. I will NEVER be the same and for that I am glad. Now, I feel blessed for having gone through those horrible years. I feel honored that God thought so highly of me that he wanted me to get a personal glimpse of his power. A view that so many people don’t get the opportunity to see.
I don’t think anyone would say they “want” a thorn but yes I would say I do want that unique revelation of God that comes through trials.
Romans 5:3 There’s more to come: We continue to shout our praise even when we’re hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, 4 and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. 5 In alert expectancy such as this, we’re never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary – we can’t round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit!
