Happy Birthday

Chets Creek Church

40 Days with Jesus – October 5th – Luke 2:1-20

Today is my dad’s birthday.  He is an only child, born to parents who were older when he was born.  Their years of waiting were finally over.  No doubt, there was happiness, and announcements were made to any who would listen.

Over 2,000 years ago, the most important birth in history took place.  The Messiah had been born!

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.”   Luke 2:11

For years, the world had waited for this.  Talk about an announcement!

“Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”  Luke 2:13

Then there is the best news of all: He came for ordinary people!

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.  An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.  But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid.  I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.”  Luke 2:8-10

Shepherds?  How awesome that God revealed His Son, but not to those we might expect.   The good news about Jesus is that He comes to all, including the plain and the ordinary.  He comes to anyone who will accept Him – no extraordinary qualifications.     Now, just like the shepherds, we have a choice to make – we can have Jesus in our life.  All we have to do is ask and our eternity is changed.

So, happy birthday, Dad, and thank you for making a difference in my physical life.  And thank you, for telling me about Jesus, the one who made a difference in my eternal life.
