How should we deal with immigration issues?

immigration, nativists, christian, acceptance, our countryAs early America was becoming more popular, the Native Americans were becoming concerned about the immigrants coming in and changing their traditions and religions. They worried about what country the immigrants were coming from.  They were also worried about the economy, their jobs, and if immigrants would take the same job for a lower wage.

Do you think this is similiar to the nativism of today?  With our economy in the stage that it’s in, it is hard for us to get jobs and many immigrants will accept a lower wage for that same job.  It seems that prejudice will always be here, even if it is among the same race.

I have walked by Americans at a shopping center and heard them say to foreigners, “Speak English. You are in America.”  Makes me wonder how many of them are bilingual.   I believe America was founded by immigration.  My grandparents came over from Europe with the hopes of a better life. I feel proud to be here and am glad they did it.  I know there has to be some boundaries on people coming in and out of our country, but I don’t think we ever should stop immigration.

What do you think about this?

A nation without God’s guidance is a nation without order. Happy are those who keep God’s law! Proverbs 29:18 (Today’s English Version)

A nation will prosper when its ruler is mature, and its leaders don’t party too much. Ecclesiastes. 10:17 (Contemporary English Version)

When there is moral rot within a nation, its government topples easily; but with honest, sensible leaders there is stability.  Proverbs 28:2 (The Living Bible)

Without wise leadership, a nation falls; with many counselors, there is safety.  Proverbs 11:14 (NLT)

Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.  For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.  Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves.  Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.  1 Peter 2:13-17 (NIV)

How do you treat people?  To be nativists, isn’t it contradictory to what this country is based on?  Where do you stand on the immigration issue?  How does this impact your faith, how you are as a Christian, and what you should do in your day-to-day life?
