Are you watching your Father?
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:5-9
This past Sunday was Father’s day. I thought of long ago days when my dad walked me to church, holding my hand the entire way. Every Sunday, the two of us would leave the house, cross the railroad tracks, and walk a couple of blocks to church. We did that for several years until we moved. Then mother and daddy, along with my new little brother, piled into the car to drive several miles to church. My parents continued to make sure that we (as more siblings came along) attended church. Lots of great memories of those years in Sunday School, GAs, choir, VBS, and church!
Not only did my dad make sure that we went to church, my mother instilled scripture into us!!!! Every time we were in the car, we became a captive audience to her quoting scripture. Her favorite was John 3:16!
The above scripture was used by my pastor for his sermon this past Sunday entitled, “At the Heart of Our Obedience.” He spoke about what Fathers must do for their children…..bottom line is to walk the talk. Lead by example.
I am blessed in the fact that both my parents did that!! And now my nieces and nephews are blessed that their parents are doing the same!!
I pray that you are also leading by example in your daily walk with God.
