Happy Birthday or Happy Un-Birthday!

If today is your birthday, or not, when it is your day, what do you do?  Do you get upset because you are older?  Are you happy because you get gifts?  Are you sad because no one cares?  Are you excited because you hang out with all of your family? Or are you just in the middle of nowhere? Your birthday is either spiritual and/or physical?

birthday, old, young, physical, spiritualSpiritual: Jesus Teaches Nicodemus

Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council.  He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”  Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”  “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”  Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.  Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.  You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’  The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:1-8 (NIV)

Physical:  So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.  Genesis 1:27 (NIV)

How will you deal with your spiritual and physical birthday?  If you were created or Born a second time, God did it all in His image.  Your creation is a finite time on this earth but an infinite time in your life!  Take your next birthday and enjoy the creation. Look forward to each moment God has given you!

  1. I guess I have never thought of myself as having one particular spiritual birthday since I have had so many spiritual milestones or life changing experiences throughout my life. The moment as a child when God called my name and I chose to say yes to him was a beginning point but it pales in comparison to other events that have surged me ahead in my spirtual walk. Maybe I should be more aware of that moment at a camp in Floydada, Texas, where I felt a spiritual tug and acted upon it, I don’t know. Oh well, guess the here and now is the most important thing isn’t it.

As far as my physical birthday, yes, sometimes I do feel like I am in the middle of nowhere. But I am so blessed to have a sweet husband that always makes it a special day and thank goodness for cell phones and Skype that bring family close even though they are far away.
