Do we even try to control things with our prayer?
This week while talking to a group of friends, I asked,”How should we really pray? Should we ask God to put pain in our life so that we can see him more clearly?” One person said, “NO WAY! I have enough issues going on right now I do not need to ask for anything else.” Then what? As we talked through this, we decided we should pray that God would show us our control issues and learn to praise God in our pain.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 (NIV)
I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13 (NIV)
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 (NIV)
It seems most of our problems come from trying to control everything! The Bible continually talks about allowing God to control our life. What should we be anxious about? How can you accomplish anything? And what will meet your needs? If you want the answers to these question read the three verses above again!
Let us all pray that we allow God’s will to be done!
