In my country, our national flag is flown on top of government buildings, in front of schools, homes, gas stations, fast food restaurants, and so many more places. It’s done with pride. However, the flags are often overlooked because we expect them to be there. They become a part of the scenery, that is, until their position on the flag pole changes.
When something dreadful happens, the flag is flown at half-staff in memory of those that have fallen. Today, it’s in memory of the 26 whose lives were senselessly taken. Why it happened, will we ever know or truly comprehend?
