Sometimes we skim over these passages because they seem boring.  If you read them and study the names you realize some cool things.  In fact, there is an interesting fact of salvation in these verses.

The Genealogy only has 5 women mentioned.  Based on the culture of that time, men were significant and women were not. Woman who had issues in their life were even less important.

What I am saying is:

  • Tamar (Genesis 38) Prostitution
  • Rahad (Joshua 2) Prostitute
  • Ruth (Deuteronomy 23:3) Born under a curse
  • The wife of Uriah (Bathseba) (2 Samuel 11) Adultery with King David
  • Mary (She was pure but had the appearance of having a child prior to getting married at a young age)

Wow, these women are a part of the genealogy of Jesus Christ!  Do you look at your family and wonder if you even have a chance?  Do you wonder how you can ‘make it’ being the kind of person you are?

Gospel according to four women:

  1. Salvation is for sinners
  2. Salvation is through faith
  3. Salvation is separated from the works of the Law
  4. Salvation is one of forgiveness

In our weakness we can find His strength!  (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Are you weak?  Are you a sinner?  Are you incapable?
