Are we giving Jesus our best or our what’s left?

Reach Out!, Give, all, best, whats left, scrapsI heard this question this week and it really made me ask myself, ‘Do I Really Believe?’  The reason I ask myself this is because I wonder if I give myself the best and then God the “what’s left”. Is what I see more important than what I say I believe.  If this is the case, I then wonder if I even believe.  If I believe, I would say that God would get the best and I would get what is left!

Sitting across from the offering box, he was observing how the crowd tossed money in for the collection. Many of the rich were making large contributions. One poor widow came up and put in two small coins—a measly two cents. Jesus called his disciples over and said, “The truth is that this poor widow gave more to the collection than all the others put together. All the others gave what they’ll never miss; she gave extravagantly what she couldn’t afford—she gave her all.”  Mark 12:41-44 (MSG)

Are we suppose to live this way?  What excuses are starting to bubble up in your head for not giving the best?  What is your most prized possession?  Are you willing to get it and give it to someone?  Is it a family member, money, a car or boat, a knife or gun, the iPhone or iPad?  What?  Does this item separate you from God?  Do you need to make sure nothing is between you and God?  Are you giving God your left-overs?

Are you willing to give extravagantly?  Are you willing to give your all?
