Am I here when I am there?

40 Days with Jesus – November 16th – Luke 19:41-48

It happens too often.  Sometimes I’m in a meeting, sometimes I’m in a crowd.  Sometimes I’m looking at you, talking directly to you.  But I’m not there.  My body is there, but I’m not there.  Words may be coming out of my mouth, but my mind and heart are miles away.

Shortly after purchasing my first cell phone I received a call while having a conversation with my wife.

I did the unpardonable . . . I answered the phone.

As I began talking on the phone my wife walked away while making sure I heard her snide remark, “whoever is on the phone is obviously more important than I am.”

Why do husbands do stupid things?  (Don’t answer that.)  My thinking was, “I don’t want to miss this call,” “what if it is _________ . . . someone important?”

But as they came closer to Jerusalem and Jesus saw the city ahead, he began to weep.“How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace. But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes.  Before long your enemies will build ramparts against your walls and encircle you and close in on you from every side.  They will crush you into the ground, and your children with you. Your enemies will not leave a single stone in place, because you did not accept your opportunity for salvation.Luke 19:41-44 (NLT)

Jesus moved from triumph to tragedy . . . from a ticker-tape parade (Luke 19:36-38) to tears.  Why?  Because you (the people of Jerusalem) did not accept your opportunity for salvation.

Wherever you are and whatever you are doing, nothing or no one is more important than Jesus Christ and the opportunity you have to have your life totally re-arranged by Him.

I am learning to be wherever I am (with much help from my wife).  I mean – ALL of me be right where I am giving to whoever I am with ALL of myself.  To do any less is to take from that person the most valuable thing I could give them at that moment . . . myself.

Your phone is ringing (and a hundred other things you need to tend to), but the One talking to you today – Jesus – is the One to listen to.  He IS your way to peace.  He IS your opportunity for salvation.  My prayer is that you would become a devoted follower of Jesus Christ.  Today is YOUR opportunity of salvation.
