Do you go to church or are you the church?

Fields of Snow, church, serve, seek, go, sunday school, lifegroupWhen I was a kid in Sunday School, we would clasp our hands together and recite:

“Here’s the church and here’s the steeple, open the doors and see all the people.”

As I’ve grown older, I realize that the rhyme is not correct.

The people are the church—not the building!!

I attend a brick and mortar building that has a steeple, but I’ve also attended worship services in a tent, a school, a stadium, a home, and an untraditional building. Church is not where you have the worship service—it’s who is attending the service.

The church is NOT the building…it is the people!!!

Matthew 18:20 states: “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”
