Can you overcome despair?

despair, lost, saved, seekIn my country, our national flag is flown on top of government buildings, in front of schools, homes, gas stations, fast food restaurants, and so many more places. It’s done with pride. However, the flags are often overlooked because we expect them to be there. They become a part of the scenery, that is, until their position on the flag pole changes.

When something dreadful happens, the flag is flown at half-staff in memory of those that have fallen. Today, it’s in memory of the 26 whose lives were senselessly taken. Why it happened, will we ever know or truly comprehend?

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:13

In the book ‘Jesus Calling’, Sarah Young writes, “Joy emerges from the ashes of adversity through your trust and thankfulness.”

Have you suffered a great loss? Did you overcome it? How? Did you turn to God? Do you now know joy?

The Bible states:

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1Thessalonians 5:18

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7

Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:19-20

For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Isaiah 41:13

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

For the LORD will not forsake his people; Psalm 94:14
