Is too much of a good thing too much?
I was talking with some missionaries about what it is like to come back to the United States from other countries. They said that it is very difficult. I asked them why and they said it was because of all the choices. I could not understand until I went to another country. Most countries do not have as many choices as we have in the United States. Once I had a chance to go to Chad Africa. I went to the grocery store and was amazed. In the store they had bread, sugar, rice, coffee, and tea. Not much to choose from.
The other day I was in the store and I think they literally had 50 choices of steak sauce. Just steak sauce! Nothing but steak sauce! I am not even talking about the many choices of salad dressings, nuts, chips, breads, cereals, pickles, noodles, rice, coffee, teas, colas, and so on. You have to wonder what happens to a society that has so much to choose from. When we have so much and carelessly think about the choices, what we do with it, and just do whatever we feel is “good” ,it can lead to a interesting dilemma.
Don’t live carelessly, unthinkingly. Make sure you understand what the Master wants. Don’t drink too much wine. That cheapens your life. Drink the Spirit of God, huge draughts of him. Sing hymns instead of drinking songs! Sing songs from your heart to Christ. Sing praises over everything, any excuse for a song to God the Father in the name of our Master, Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:17-20 (MSG)
Do you take what you have for granted? Do you know what God wants from you? Do you cheapen your life? Do you praise God for all He has given you? When you are alone today take some time and Sing to your Father!!
