Are we home yet?

home, house, back home, hometownRecently I had a chance to go to my wife’s hometown for a family reunion.  From the moment we got there until the moment we left, I could see the joy of being with family, hearing all the stories of the past, and eating so much delicious food.

While we enjoyed this time I realized that anyone who goes back home has so many memories.  We all have both good and bad memories and for us the good out weighed the bad.  Being with so many people, hearing about people that were dead years before I was born and knowing how they were related to us, captivated anyone that was listening, even the kids!

At this family reunion I met a 96 year old lady who had just lost her husband. I asked her how she was doing and she said, “I am going blind but I am blessed!”  I then told her I was sorry about the loss of her husband and she said, “We are still married and he is just with the Lord right now and I will be with him one day!”  When she said this she was smiling and had such joy on her face!  This lady has lost her husband and is loosing her eye site and still sees the time is coming to be home with our Lord!  Wow, what an inspiration to keep this kind of focus!

With all this, I started to think about a passage in the Bible and actually thought that this is going to be better than the family reunion we just went to!

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.  My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.  You know the way to the place where I am going.”  John 14:1-4 (NIV)

Until we have a chance to be in this new home we will always try to fill a spot that we can’t.  Being with God in His presence will be the place to be.

Is your heart troubled?  Do you see yourself with the Lord one day in this house with many rooms?  Do you believe that Jesus is coming back for you?

I pray that you and I will always have this positive focus on knowing where we are and where we are going!  If we do, we will be able to keep the focus on the end game!
