Should you walk away?

Several years ago, africa, help, looking, squanderI had a chance to go to Africa.  While I was there, I visited a nomadic tribe.  It was the most amazing thing that I had ever seen. Animals were everywhere. The people seemed to be in dire need, yet they were so happy. While I was there, I noticed that a baby was lying in manure. I started to pick the child up but was told that I should not.  Later I realized that it was not customary for a man to pick up a baby.  They did not want me to offend them.

Now back home, I am still haunted by the thought that there are people living in the world in such great need, while I have everything.

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.  If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?  Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:16-18  (NIV)

How do you show love?  Do you squander what you have?  Could you give more? Do you see others in need?  Are you looking for others in need or are you hiding?  Are you showing love both in actions and truth?

  1. Yes, I am haunted too. It may not be in my budget to go to these places but World Vision gives me the way to give and know that my donations go to the places of greatest need. I once heard someone say, “We are not all called to go but we are all called to see and to do as we are led.”
